Oilers Extend Series, Force Game 7

Edmonton Defeats Florida 5-1

Bobrovsky Earns Shutout, Verhaeghe Scores Game-Winner

EDMONTON, Alberta - The Edmonton Oilers have done the improbable, forcing a decisive Game 7 against the Florida Panthers in the 2024 Stanley Cup Final. In Game 6 on Wednesday night, the Oilers rallied for a 5-1 victory, extending the series that seemed destined to end in a Panthers' sweep.

Sergei Bobrovsky stole the show in net, stopping all 32 shots he faced for the shutout. Carter Verhaeghe scored the game-winning goal in the second period, with Sam Bennett notching an assist and adding 11 hits. Evan Bouchard put the Oilers up 2-0 in the third, and Zach Hyman scored twice in the final minutes to seal the victory. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins made it 5-0 with 5:39 remaining.

The Oilers are now 3rd team in history to rally from a 3-0 deficit in a best-of-7 Cup Final to extend the series to Game 7. The 1945 Detroit Red Wings also forced Game 7 after trailing 3-0, but they lost to the Toronto Maple Leafs. The 2010 Flyers also rallied from a 3-0 deficit to force Game 7, which they won against the Chicago Blackhawks.
